Rottenheart Wrote:preference? hmmm i dont think there is anything in the blacksmithing tree that is uber the arcanite champ is nice but not enuff even the ultimate weapons for hammersmith dont really do it for me i prefer to study alchamy so that i can make my own healing potions but since my Tallest asked me to be a blacksmith im open to any path You 'dissing the Reaper? For Shame! You haven't been doing your reading of the General Forums, then! The reason the Reaper is so uber, even though its DPS doesn't look that good is: - It's slow, and has big DAMAGE (Speed x Dmg = DPS) - Some warrior abilities, including Overpower but most importantly Mortal Strike, do not take into account weapon speed and are essentially a FREE attack in addition to your usual rate of hitting. - Warriors can get talents and armor that greatly improve their crit rate and damage per hit. The reaper therefore allows heavy BURST damage, meaning that an opponent who thinks they don't need healing because they are still at 75% health is suddenly DEAD because of 1-2 massive hits in quick succession. Thus... even some of the 80 DPS LEGENDARY (orange) weapons out now are still not that much better than the reaper, especially for warriors with the proper talent build. Zrog

Rayfrost was also thinking Axesmith... so you guys can race for it, or fight it out, or have a drinking contest... I don't care. I want access to the Reaper, and Dawn's Edge too.
Dawn's Edge Binds when equipped One-Hand Axe 53 - 100 Damage Speed 2.10 (36.4 damage per second) Requires Level 50 Passive: Improves your chance to get a critical strike by 1%.
Notice that this is a ONE HAND rather than MAIN HAND weapon, meaning you can dual wield with 2 of them... also meaning +2% crit chance...
Ginsu! Choppa-choppa!

You might also try going to Dire Maul and getting this weapon instead: Bonecrusher Binds when picked up Two-Hand Two-Hand Mace 129 - 194 Damage Speed 3.00 (53.8 damage per second) +30 Strength Passive: Improves your chance to get a critical strike by 1% wow.allakhazam.com/item.html?witem=18420Although its burst damage is much worse (since the speed is way lower, it won't "proc" for massive blows), it has a fast speed that some 2h, non-MS-spec mace wielders might appreciate. I actually think it's better for PVE since you don't have to wait as long between swings, thus more even generation of rage, and the +30 Str gives you effectively +4 DPS, PLUS a crit% bonus. Now if I could only get through Dire Maul... Zrog

I just realized another reason why the Reaper is so popular... it's not actually that hard to make.
Granted, you have to get 20 arcanite bars... but these can be bought at AH easily enough (with the right amount of money), and enchanted leather isn't that hard to procure either... if you know the right people.
On the other hand, many other weapons require a whole lot of rare gems, meaning that all the mats aren't always at the AH, even if you DID have enough money to buy them all.

thats why i wanted to go axesmith, for the ease of the ultimate axe creation.
ive seen the plans at the ah with a buyout of about 15g, not bad
i admit i have not done any smithing lately but have been gathering mats
i waste too much money on mats so i will gather it all the cheap way...slowly, very slowly

Rottenheart,
If you EVER see the plans for Arcanite Reaper at that price again, BUY IT!
I see the Arcanite Champion occasionally for about 100-200g buyout, and when I saw it once for a 50g buyout, I snagged it. I will give it to whomever gets up there AND has the mats to make the damn thing, since I want the smith to be around for awhile and actually get use out of the pattern before he leaves the game.
I am spending craploads of $$ on Thorium bars, because I'm too lazy to farm for bars when I can farm SM... but that's going to have to change soon, since I'm going to need gems and crystals.
