I know some of our members are heavy into pvp and was wondering if they could pass along any tidbits of knowledge to those of us who have not really indulged in the blood of alliance scum.
One tip i would like to pass is potions...for those of us toons who dont like to get hit with magic there is a potion u can find at the AH that reduces magic damage for like 30 secs...

I don't know much, but here's what I've picked up so far:
1) get in a (raid) group. This is important, since you won't always kill the one you're pounding on, but a teammate should occasionally kill something. It evens out the contribution points, especially if you're under level 60.
2) Go raiding in a party of 5 or so. Big raids don't give you lots of contribution points. Move on quickly after striking down a few unwaries, as a small raid will turn into a big battle within minutes.
3) Get a spider belt. They are cloth, and they get you out of root spells. There's nothing more annoying than getting rooted by a druid and killed at long range, or worse, at medium range, where you can't strike in melee but it's too close for a gun.
4) Learn to use your slowing abilities: wing clip, hamstring, etc. Use them often - on every target. Use it on one target until it sticks. This is a big contribution a low-level can make to a fight, in my opinion.
5) Don't stick your neck out: If you charge, and there's no one (or few) behind you, fall back again. If you are in a big fight and you notice your line collapsing, fall back with the others.
6) Find a mixed party. There's nothing better than chasing around the enemy casters while your hunters and mages pummel from afar. And there's nothing more frustrating to the enemy to have your priests rob them of a kill with a greater heal to the nearly-dead.
7) There is no lucky number 7.
8) Get a mount. Whether pursuing or escaping, the slow are left behind. Don't be the slow guy...
9) Large - scale PVP becomes much more interesting after level 40.
10) You will always be outnumbered by the alliance. Don't bother going to Guru'bashi Arena - it's an Alliance-fest. They kill the Hordies, then fight amongst themselves.

Although most of what i learned is class specific (Hunter) there are a couple of general pvp tips ive picked up.
1. join a group - although you get more cp's per hk's when u are fighting solo, this should not deter you from joining a group. Think of it as grouping up for an instance run; you have to share the loot but it makes it a lot easier and youll live longer.
2. stay with the pack - not only does it make harder for alliance to single you out it virtually eliminates the most annoying part of pvp...rogue gangbangs.
3. know your class' role in pvp - this is mainly directed towards hybrid healing classes. We are in dire need of high level priests so until we get more, the shammys and druids have to be the healers. Also, u get cp's for healing a friendly =p.
4. ignore paladin rushes - when u see a paladin with his shield on rushing you ignore him hes not going to a lot of damage. His purpose is to act as a diversion.
5. use AoE or DoT to prevent rushes - AoE are great in preventing rushes, even though my volley shot is only 66 damage per second , it is visually intimidating and the alliance tend to back off instead of continue to rush. With DoTs, once a person is hit, they scurry off the the back of the pack until hte effect is over.
6. for warriors - a)make sure people know when your gonna rush, b)make sure u make friends with a healer c) when you do rush use your intimidation shout... ive seen several occasion when this was the turning point in the battle
thats all i can think of now

hmmm...i dueled this guy yesterday who used a stupid technique of fighting that unfortunately works (unless the other guy is looking for it).
he was a lvl 50 shaman going against my 57 warrior...his strategy was to stun me, invoke fire totem, then run around me so i could not target him properly (in our 2nd fight i countered by moving forward/backwards to throw off his circle and spinning only halfway to give him angles)...it also did not help that my daughter was hanging off my arm asking if it was her turn yet to use the mouse...sigh...
have u guys seen this type of punk fighting in your pvp experiences? or is this just a case of a shaman-gone-wild?
i thought it was a punk way to fight but if u tell me this is normal i guess i will not have to prepare for it on a normal basis but also practice it to some degree...sigh

From what I've seen / experienced in duels, is that people will do whatever they can to win, especially if they know that they can't win a head-to-head fight. I'm surprised the shammy let you get close to him AT ALL, since he could have Frost Shocked you and shot you from range a bunch of times.
No, not at all surprised about the running - although I must say that non-dueling PVP is MUCH different.

dude had no ranged weapon and wanted to fight me melee...strange
frostshock, eh?
i laugh at frost shock! and counter with table leg! hahaha!
hmmm...that would be a nice patch... then we could have real barroom brawls, very cool!

Improvised weapons WOULD be cool... I think I might practise up my unarmed skill for just such an occasion as a brawl... I wonder if we could get a "fight club" going with that... I hear there's one that some high-levels are using (both Alliance and Horde) to have mini-duels "with honor". I saw one take place in Thunder Ridge, outside Ogrimmar, actually.

Rottenheart,
After all that PVP you just did, do you have anything to add? I know you didn't go for the Mortal Strike build, but went Fury instead... how did that affect your PVP?

in battlegrounds i stay away from mages...they kick my butt unless i have magic resist potion
for melee fighters i dont do too bad, i switch between my 1h/2h often to throw them off and use swiftness potion if things go bad
sometimes i tank, sometimes i maul sometimes im near the top for kills and sometimes near the bottom
basically because of the way of i build my toon he is a kind of hybrid of rogue/warrior...standing around waiting to be hit is not my style
i do well in many aspects pvp when i focus on that aspect...i cant effectively wade thru my opponents usually but will surprise them now and then by the ferocity of a warrior attack
if fighting another warrior i usually beat him to bits as many warriors are configured for meatshield or damage dealing...not both (i am more damage dealing)
in my experience it helps to buff up...spend the money for scrolls and potions, they will give u an edge in a close fight, gear can do only so much, and many people understand how to use their class effectively so dont be a putz and think that u can out-tuff them...
