Just started a mage (Troll female), which I named "Dedream" (since Dedread will never meet her), and I must say that mages are cool.
Why cool? Well, aside from standing toe-to-toe with 30-foot behemoths, I must say that a close second is blasting away with fire that comes out of your hands...

Something thats ever more great about mages? During a raid on Xraods one time allaince ran through the town into our guard tower...After a little while and horde getting pissed most of the higher lvl mages in the raid party all rn up into the tower at the same time...AOEed the hell out of em and most of them either ran off the tower right off the bat ro lost tons of health and THEN ran off the tower......1 for the mages....0 for allaince.

While mages certainly pump out the damage, I must say that they are VERY squishy against elite enemies. I was escorting Shrike through SM, and at level 30, I would guess that he could take about 4 hits from an elite before dropping.

Tanks are in front...take all the damage but do hardly any dmg to the enemy. Mages are in back, the cannons, but do the heavy dmg.

Actually, Rogues and hunters are just as good for high dmg. THe reason I prefer a mage is for Poly and AOE, so it will be sweet when I finally get those...

My mage is level 39, and all of his talent points are in frost. The higher he gets, the more success that I have one on one or groups of mobs. What hurts me is when my stuff is resisted and I start running low on mana. I really enjoy the frost effects, but my heavy hitter is still the fireball.

If u want big hits david u need to go fire. Im mostly fire, but right now im working on better +dmg gear cus i hit weak for a mage. Though i do have more mana then the average mage. I found frost to boring for me...no huge-ass explosions right in their face. Fire is also good cus when u get attacked by more mobs then u want, u got that extra firepower to get yourself out of it. Though u dont get as much croud control all mages still have cone of cold so....meh every mage has their advantages. As does EVERY class.

I really like the fire talent tree too. The one thinkg I don't like about arcane, is that they only really have two offensice spells. Granted they are great when you have the talents into them, but I like the few extra spells that fire and frost have to offer.
