Is that right? That's it?! Seems like they nerfed combustion, although the cooldown isn't listed (sorry fire mages). Arcane Resilience isn't worth the talent point the continue through the arcane tree. Bah, now I need to spend a lot of time looking over the talent trees trying to find a setup I like.

Okay, so the new combustion will cause more damage over time than the first version of it. But having said that, fire isn't about damage over time as much as really big burst damage, quickly. At least arcane subtlety is better.
So...except that one new talent, they haven't really changed much in the trees to make the fire/frost build any better.

This is what im thinking atm........not sure at all though. It still gives me the overall damage, and ill do alot better in MC now overall dmg wise too.

Yuck mal. This would be the spec i'd take. Period. They just made Frosties a much more PvP oriented build from before, with AWESOME raiding abilities like Winters Chill (basically a 5% extra crit while you spam Fbolt), the fact that frostbite is only 3 talents and is a prerequesite for Shatter, Arcane Subtlety so my crits don't kill me so much, and so i resist less, and the fire talents mainly for those Fire Blasts which are so often used in PvP. By the way, shatter increases the crit of ANY spell by 50%...so FN + Blastwave can work now too. Yummy, now I can't wait

Test servers FTW.
but anyways, i didnt notice shatter effects every spell. The 5 i put in (fire talent that has 10% chance to stun target one, i cant remmber name and im at school cant see the site), i thinkk ill have to take these out and put them in shatter. I didnt know what to do with them so i just threw em in there.

Too bad you can't freeze enemies in their place in most of the higher level instances. Although you will against the trash mobs in the Razorgore fight.
Wait a minute, does that mean Mal will spec more into frost? You'll also have to spend 3 points in frostbite, since it's required for shatter. Bwha ha ha, Mal will slowly spec more and more frost.
P.S. Since it isn't even in the test servers yet, I heard that there could still be changes made. Let's hope a few of those useless talents get removed or upgraded. (Wand Specializtion, Arcane Resilience, Magic Attument just to name a few).

I'm actually really excited for the changes, Blizzard did a lot more then I thought they would, but not as much as I hoped. Although, now that everything I wanted from Arcane requires no talent point (except Clearcasting, oh well), I don’t have to waste any talent points in the arcane tree, although, Arcane Power is very enticing. I like the changes to Combustion, because now it may take longer, but you have the chance to crit 3 times, where as before your one shot at that crit hit could be resisted. But it looks like I’m going to be almost completely spec’d in fire. www.wowhead.com/talent/?kZEersfcutiI really like the changes to the Improved Fire Blast and Improved Scorch only costing 3 points instead of 5, and the Improved Frost Nova, which I can get now without having to put any points into frost. I never thought I would put some much into frost, but I might try this one too. www.wowhead.com/talent/?RZxersccutwV0h

It's kinda odd. As of now, most mages are rither fire/arcane or frost/arcane. When I heard that they were giving mages a review I thought that there would be more option out there for us. Instead they almost limit us to a fire/frost build. You'd only take arcane if you're crazy, which I am. The only reason I'd put more than 3 points into the arcane tree is just to say: "Hey guys, I'm different because I have points in arcane" in which people would probably call me a noob.
Oh well, I'll have to spend a fair amount of time on the test servers once the talents are changed there and see what interesting builds I can come up with.

I can definitely see why someone would want to put points in Arcane, if you want to have almost unlimited mana, and do consistent dmg. Arcane Power and PoM are really great talents, I just love to look on my scream and see ridiculously high crits, and that’s why I like fire so much.
Although, I do plan to try out an AP build someday.
