I use Scorch a lot when I just need to finish off a kill quickly, since its only a 1.5 sec cast.
Its also pretty handy when you are 60 and you have all 3 points in Improved Scorch. Since boss fights take so long you have time to stack all 5 and I can do a lot more damage. Although, I really wouldn't suggest it unless you are 60 and raiding.
I don't really use it in pvp much, since it only does about 600-900 dmg on average. Its more worth it to use fireball and deal far more damage.

So after much respecing and, therefore, lots of gold spent, I've found that the only spec I can grind comfortably with is an almost pure frost build. Granted, I leveled Ipit up to 60 pure frost so maybe that's why I have an easier time with it.
How are you fire mages doing? I know I tried a fire build thinking "I'll just burn'em down" (some pun intended) but found I didn't have any survivability and kept dying. Are there any tricks you guys use in particular?

Fireball, fireball, fireblast, frost nova, back up, fireball, fire blast.
If they are elites or something and that doesnt get them down most of the way, then I would combine rank 1 frostbolts into that to keep em slowed.
*shrug*, that worked for me, maybe the mobs in BC are harder then what Ive fought so far.

Maybe it's just me, but a fair amount of mobs in Hellfire Penninsula have a bit of FR, and a crit for 2K only seems to take off about 1/3 of thier health.
Like I mentioned earlier, I leveled frost and haven't really tried going fire, but it seems like I don't have the fire spec down yet.

So, I had time to grind for the first time yesterday, and mobs my level I can usually take down before they even get to me. Maybe its just because you are not used to fire.

I don't really seem to have much problem buring down one mobs, it's just that I find it's fairly easy to pull 2-3 mobs at a time and that's when the situation becomes a problem. If one of them are ranged, it becomes much more difficult to sheep one and then you've got to down two more mobs with little crowd control of other surviving talents (ice barrier). Sure we have mana shield, but you spend more time recasting it than doing anything else, also fire + mana shield = empty mana pool. But those are just the problems I've been having.

With grps like that I would normally start off by burning the ranged (not sure how easily this can be done in outlands), FN the mele when they get to you...sheep one...then you got 1 to worry about and later another single one to worry about. I also dont know many fire mages who go for mana regen gear

Sadly enough, I've dropped all my mana regen gear in favour of +dmg gear. I still have 4 pieces of NW, and everything had more +dmg on it. Counting all I've done I'm still only sitiing on +350. I'm not sure where I'm supposed to get more at the moment.
