I could read a million 'guides' online about how to play a lock in a high level instance. But I was just wondering what you guys think is best (since I will be *hopefully* running with you all most the time).
Do I spread out DoTs on all mobs attacking and risk the chance I might pull aggro from say the thrid or fourth one the group will go after. (Not saying that our tanks cant keep aggro, just saying its more likely doing this).
Or do I act like a want-to-be mage and try to nuke mobs with shadowbots? This way I can focus on one mob and not draw aggro.
What pets do you all prefer? The stamina buff one? The seduce one? The remove debuff one?(Although I would need to get better at using this bad boy, as I havent played around with him much!) It probably depends on the intance as to which pet, but hey let me know.
And if you guys could care less, thats cool too. I will just keep playing however I feel. Just wondering if y'all had any other suggestions? (Other than dismissing pet when jumping down a ledge. Wont make that mistake again >_<)

dont pull aggro off me dont summon known assholes have soulstones ready repair your armor before going to instance bring plenty of healing/mana stuff dont "need" roll on plate armor drops take a bio break before the instance
***pay attention...seriously, i hate it when guys r talking about stupid shit and pull the wrong mob, are facing the wrong way, get caught typing while in battle, or do otherwise avoidable nonsense when it just takes a small mistake to wipe the group.....thats an easy way to get on ppl's shit list

I learned this one the hard way long ago, and I think aph learned it just last week...
If you're going to jump off a ledge... dismiss your pet! Nothing quite like having them run through the instance to meet back up with you and pulling a huuuge train of mobs with them...
As for combat strategies, if you spam out DoTs on everything you will pull aggro. There's going to be some mob, somewhere, that isnt being focused on too much by the others, and it's going to come after you. Be prepared to deal WITH it. If you like shadowbolting, put some points in nightfall and try throwing out a single corruption on every mob in combat. Once you get five or six corruptions going, that 6% per tick proc triggers amazingly often, plus, one corruption isn't going to pull very much aggro.
As for pet, it's all about the group. Imp is a good fallback for the sta boost and to use as a mana battery is you have dark pact, succ is good if you need more crowd control and are fighting humanoids, and felhunter can shut down casters and remove debuffs, as you said.

I agree with most of what was said above. I'll add the following:
- Leave AT LEAST 1 mob undotted. Generally, Crowd Control (Freeze traps, shackles, sheep, etc) will break if the mob takes any damage, and DoTs are the worst for this. Sometimes a mob COULD be pulled into a waiting freeze trap, but not if the Warlocks have dotted the crap out of it.
- Use Curse of Recklessness just before mobs die. Only use this on mobs that will run (humanoids mainly). The tanks and healers appreciate it if you don't stick this curse on the mob when it's at full health, because the mob then does more dmg.
- DO NOT pull. I was with a 'lock that wanted to pull last night, and it pissed me off. Squishies do not pull. Squishies use CC only AFTER someone else pulls. Not before. End of story. Zrog gets pissed off when dumbasses pull initial aggro when there's no reason they should do that.
- Use pets appropriately: Use VW to handle adds and Imps to buff your party (and for DPS). Basically, choose your pet to cover your parties weaknesses. Lots of squishies and low tanks? Use VW. Low on CC in the party? Use Succy. Low on party DPS or buffs? Use Imp. I rarely see the Felhound used... no idea why.
- Use FEAR appropriately. Yes, there are actually times when fear works. Make sure you have LOTS of room for it, though.
- Get a SS timer. I've seen parties wipe and not get back up because people (both rezzer and 'lock) forgot to make sure SS was renewed.
I hate to say it, but as a warrior who has to manage party aggro, I WAY prefer direct damage on one mob to DoTs on lots of mobs.

Thanks for the input guys!
I see at least one thing I really need to work on listed already <_<. You got me, its the rolling on plates. Its an addiction.
I already got the SS timer after our BRD/Strat runs last Friday. That is a amazing help!

I think we all know the answer to that.

First off: Aph is not the next Smushy!!!
Smushy is like an Epic Weapon/Armor, there is nothing better, hahaha
Well on to tactics:
/assist is your friend, unless the main tank is Zrog-that- likes-to-focus-on-multiple-targets, hehe jk
Always help the tank with solid dps but watch to pull aggro because with SM/Ruin build and +dmg gear you will alot of the time
Always ask your priest for a shield before using hellfire on AOE's, Also Renew is perfect for life tap and uses less mana, also know when to use hellfire or rain o fire!
Never use the 6 second firebolt, waste of mana and time for a 800dmg cast (worst lock spell in the game)
Curse of Shadow helps out priests as well since it also reduces arcane resists
Manage life/mana effectively, Ive had times where I had to lifetap all of my health to almost 0 to save the group
If you do pull aggro do not run as no one can hit something thats moving around like crazy
And last but not least know when to die, if your going out go out in style with mass dps, hehe
just a few tips from the Artifact known as Smushy!!
