Seems like there are few mages about in BC. I know that some long-times mages have "changed" toons and/or left. Mal went to alliance, Larry's new main is his druid and I've been playing my shaman a whole pile more than my mage. Now I've tried leveling Ipit, but I kept on dying. I don't know if it's the fact I've been raiding for over a year and have gotten "lazy" and out of practice with him, or maybe it's my gear. I can't seem to do damage fast enough to kill the mobs quickly and getting an add just spells doom for me. I try and sheep the adds and they keep resisting. Anywho, I wasn't sure if any other mages/former mages have been having this sort of trouble and maybe that's why they stopped playing them. Feel free to post your ideas and comments here. (And yes, I'm already aware that I probably "just suck" at playing my class )

I'm killing 3 mobs at a time without losing more then about a third of my life out in the noob Hellfire Peninsula. Maybe you are getting lazy, hehe.
But, if you do want to level Ipit, cause Ipit rules (Ipit the character as well as Ipit the person we all know as Ipit), let me know if I'm on, I'll be glad to team up with ya man. God knows you've done a lot to help everyone else in this guild.

i'm guessing to rogue ability to dodge a lot helps, although I'm not sure not having actually played a rogue.
Thanks for the offer. I know that most of the time when I try and level my mage I tend to get people asking if my shaman isn't busy and want to heal for a run. Now I don't mind since I really like my shaman, it just makes it more difficult to level another toon. Having said that, my shaman is coming along nicely.

I'm accidentally pulling 5-6 level 60 and 61 mobs and (barely) surviving.

I'm very surprised that my resto shammie can live through 5-6 mobs like that fairly easily. It's like they're the new pally. (Waits for Fire to appear out of no where and start yelling at him).

I actually had a bad pull at one point and was certainly going to die, but Craiven happened by at that exact moment and saved my ass.

I had a scare at first, pulled three mobs at once accidentally, and I vanished.
Turns out I could have done that no problem.
I think 5 or 6 at once would kill me, since I have 0 multi mob attacks.

What the hell? I just read toady's patch notes and it says "for each rank of improved fireball and improveed frostbolt the +dmg coefficient goes down by 2%"
Now, doesn't that seem a little odd. Couldn'd they just change the description of the spell to read how much actually damage it does instead of fooling people about how much "extra" damage they're going to get? Bah, seems stupid to me.

It does say how much extra damage the spell does. "+dmg coefficient" is applied to the effect of +dmg gear.
The intended effect of the talents being to improve the base spells, and not the +dmg you're getting, presumably.

Well, I know empowered frostbolt gives +2% damage from +dmg gear to frost along with 1% crit per rank.
Now I'm guessing my math is probably wrong here but let's take an example using +600 dmg gear (which apparently isn't even that much):
Without Empowered Frostbolt:
600 +dmg * 0.8 (normal co-efficient on frostbolt) = +480 dmg
With Empowered Frostbolt:
600 +dmg * 1.1 (talent bonus) = +660 dmg
660 +dmg * 0.7 (-2% co-efficient per rank of talent) = +462 dmg
My problem with this is that the talent claims a damage bonus when it's actually a damage reduction. Granted, you get a +5% crit chance with it, so it's sort of a trade-off.

Depends on the order they're applied in. If the +10% and -10% are counted against each other then you're just getting the +crit. Still, that seems strange.

I tried doing it the other way around and got the same numbers.

Just reread the patch notes and the mage talent tree.
Ipit... you need to pay closer attention. "Improved frostbolt/fireball" are the tier 1 talents that reduce cast time.
