I figure Fire might know this more than anyone, but maybe some of the other healers might know too.
There has to be a point where is you have so much +healing gear, that Healing Wave becomes more effiicient than Lesswe Healing Wave. I've been wondering what that number might be. Having said that, I believe Lesser Healing Wave gets around 45% of the + healing while Healing Wave gets about 85%. Any info would be appreciated.

can I have the mana costs, casting times and stated heal amounts for HW and LHW (with whatever talents you have affecting it)? I can probably give you some more info then.
I do know that enough +heal gear can actually make lower-rank casts of the same spell more mana-efficient than higher rank ones. For example, if a priest has any reasonable amount of +healing gear, his most mana-efficient heal spell is actually Rank 3 or 4 renew. (Used to be rank 1 until they made some changes to the effect of +heal on very low-rank spells.)

Same for damage, but since the rate we pump it out is usually more important than our efficiency there isn't much call for me to throw around rank 4 shadowbolts.

My rank 1 fireball is like 20 base dmg.....+400 spell dmg would make it like 400 dmg rank 1 fireballs(then, not now). They made it so the lower the rank, the less effect it gets from +dmg and +healing.

per heal its already more efficent with base but sense you can get 2 lhws off in the time a greater heal goes off it never does.

I had an interesting conversation with Xandros last night about shammy healers, and he heard that some of the top-tier guilds with good gear have SHAMMIES as their top healers. I guess LHW spam + mana totems = buber healing.
Of note: Xandros was #2 (after Budoh) on the healing meter last night in BWL for the Broodlord fight and Firemaw attempts.
Also of note: Budoh healed about 20% more dmg than Xandros, and she did about double the healing of the "average healer" in the raid. Overhealing was factored OUT of those numbers already.

do we know the numbers on how it works? pamp - if I recall correctly, it only affects spell ranks that are available below level 20. So, for all intents and purposes you don't need to worry about it. It's not screwing up your L6 HT.

Xandros and benjo will do that personally I think its pointless to use hwl simply because an equally geared druid or priest that knows how to spam a button will always out do us in it.
Not to mention a lack of controll we have.
(no offense budoh your a kick ass healer)

After having a little raid experience with my shaman, I realize that chain heal, while not the most efficient unless used well, is a great way to top the healing meters. Having said that, just spamming it won't help the raid out as much as "spot" healing with it. For example, in MC chain heal works well when used on a couple of rogues taking AoE/cleave damage.
According to the new 2.0 stats interface, apparently I have +363 healing. I hope to get the High Warlord healing mace to add about another +100 healing on there (before the healing enchant).
I've found it's all about knowing when to use what heal. Lesser healing wave is great on casters and rogues, and okay to top someone up or for the few cases of "oh darn, he needs a heal now!"
Healing wave is good for MT healing, or if whomever you're healing isn't taking a lot of burst damage and you have the time to cast a larger heal. Also, Healing Wave is nice when combined with the Healing Way talent and the 8/8 Earthfury, as even the healing wave buff jumps the other targets.
Finally, chain heal is pretty much used when I would cast a lesser healing wave, but there are more people around them that could use a heal too. Especially since chain heal receives a decent amount of the +healing coefficient.
Sorry for the ranting, but just thought I'd share what I've noticed about shaman healing and see if anyone else thinks I may be wrong or might have some other ideas. After all, I'm always looking to become a better healer.

You have learnt well young polly wog shaman are very versitile healers, we save people when they need a quick heal and heal dps because we can. You could become a master shaman easily though beyond that it requires you to go on a spiritaul journey or in lamens terms get realy high and wake up in a dumpster.

I've already done that, I'm just not a shaman.
