There's a been a lot of guild drama lately with various members leaving for various reasons. It seems that there is a community of people who aren't satisfied with their Legacy experience. I'm perfectly willing to grant people their right to their own opinions and beliefs about what a guild should offer, and it's ludicrous to think that Legacy can meet the needs of every player fully. Legacy may not be a good fit for everyone. I'm always sad to see people go, especially those with whom I've grouped with and come to know better. And yet I understand that the attitude of the guild may not appeal to everyone. Those of you who have left, I invite to join us in the legacyofthevoid chat channel, so that we may keep in touch still.
I'd like to talk now about why I am a member of Legacy of the Void. I was recruited by Malthorn when he (a young 33 mage at the time) ran a lvl 16 Prunetracy and a Tauren Shaman through RFC after our previous group failed and disbanded. At the time, we were The Shadow Guild, and times were good. There was always a very helpful and friendly atmosphere, and so it didn't matter to me that we were small and I had to run most instances in pickup groups. The Shadow Guild disbanded when many of our regular members decided to start our own guild, now called Legacy of the Void. The reason I was willing to move to Legacy was because I enjoyed the community of TSG, and that was what was most important to me.
Community remains the most important aspect for me. I like that I feel comfortable enough to laugh and poke fun at each other in guild chat and Team Speak. Admittedly, at times it's brash and cruel, and probably obscene to many, but I appreciate that people are willing to be themselves, and allow them the freedom to do so.
I'm thankful that we had a rather sudden rush of high level players (thanks largely due to Aph, Stomp, McG, and Ray) that allowed Legacy to stay intact by offering content to the 60's. Now we are a guild that participates in MC (Thanks Zrog), and regularly runs Guild-only instances.
I wasn't sure whether or not I was going to continue WoW once I moved to Utah. But two days before I left, I did an all guild run in Stratholme while listening on Teamspeak (I didn't have a mic yet). That run was so much fun that I knew I couldn't let it go.
Fact is, I'm in Legacy because I have a blast with you all. I like the off-color humor. I like the helpful atmosphere. I like that there's a genuine feeling of community. I like that when I log on, I am welcomed. Logging into WoW now feels less like logging into a game and more like visiting friends.
I'd like to thank all the members of Legacy of the Void for making it what it is today. I'd like especially to thank the guild leadership for doing their best to maintain an atmosphere that is true to who we are, for better or for worse.
