I've been thinking of going resto/elemental come the expansion. I know elemental itself isn't good, but thought that I may benefit from universal +dmg/healing and spell crit.
Anyone else been thinking of actually trying to fill a hybrid roll rather than just trying to play a slightly less efficient healer?

I did that to an extent back in my raiding days. It actually worked quite well. It was a good build for occasional PvP and all the PvE stuff.
So go for it man.

stop talking like you know anything about the build I made for you wolf ;p
Ipit the thing about the shaman elemental tree is in order for it to be very funtcional at all you need the 21 point talent which would stop you from getting earth shield, on the ohter hand at 70 you could do a wicked mana tide elemental build where you could just keep going for heals and dmg though mana tide is pure pve viability as any retard with a stick can kill it. The benefit from the int to dmg and healing is small. The over all dps from you would go down souverley as opposed to double dmg when you crit however your healing viability would go up. I need more info if you want a decent assesment though.

Well, it may not seem like that good of a build but I was randomly throwing talent points around and came up with something like this: www.wowhead.com/?talent-bc=hE0zE0MkqZZVbxtoxoxIt takes away from healing overall, compared to my current spec. I guess the idea was to stock up on the standard +dmg/healing gear, hopefully get a fair amount of +spell crit too. As much as I hate to say it, a pally in a group with the extra blessings helps with overall mana issues shamans tend to have. The viability of this build depends on how much the shaman will be "expected" to heal in these new dungeons. If it ends up like it like pre-burning crusade, then I guess I'll be returning to the healbot spec. P.S. I would miss earth shield a bit, as it's actually a better talent than I first thought it was (I thought it was pretty decent to begin with).

Honestly, I was thinking about both.
I suspect that I would do pve for more of my healing gear rather and have to pvp for my dps gear. Having said that I'm not quite sure what to expect from the end game BC, so I guess I'll have to wait and see. As of now I'm trying to find a spec which I think I'd enjoy while still being vaid for both pve and pvp.

Okay, so here's a revised build that I'm going to try for my shaman since the first one I posted seemed a little all over the place. I have a feeling it won't work out too well, but I won't know unless I give it a shot. I'd mostly be looking for +dmg/healing and mp5 gear. The +damage and healing would hopefully help with the spot healing I'd be doing, but throwing out lightning in all it's forms because it's fun. www.wowhead.com/?talent=hE0zE0MqAZZV0ex0xo

I would do something more like this. www.wowhead.com/?talent=GE0zE00qVoZZVf0thxohThat is a little heavy on the damage side however without a hefty investment into resto you can not get mana tide and the crit/natures swiftness

I've been playing with the shaman talents, and think this one is pretty good. It keeps most of the raw healing abilities my full resto shaman has, but isn't as good a main healer, but definately supports some dps: www.wowhead.com/?talent=GE0zy00RZZV0xtixotcThoughts?

Yeah, well pallys do what we do better, but I didn't spend 25+ days playing this shaman for nothing. If I'm going to reroll a pally, it certainly isn't going to be a BE, since I despise the concept. It'll most likely be a magical space goat (Draenei).
